History: In his younger years, he spent a lot of time with Chiyo, having picnics and letting himself be put in Chiyo's dresses. He also grew up with Keiichirou, who tends to generally take care and support Madoka's business affairs while also keeping an eye on Madoka's wellbeing. He promised Chiyo back in the day that if she ever called for help or couldn't do something, he would rush to the rescue.

Madoka meets his nephew while being terrified of a puppy and trying to get it to go away. Despite never having met Chihiro, he recognises the boy immediately due to the similarties to his sister (Chihiro's mother), Chiyo. He adopts Chihiro shortly after Chiyo's death. It is revealed that Chiyo severed all ties with her rich family. Because he recognises that Chihiro doesn't want anything for free, and the fact that he's such a slob that he desperately needs someone to keep the house clean, he strikes a deal with him to make Chihiro his new butler in exchange for a place to live and food to eat. Madoka designs costumes, and the only other kind of labour he does is bake sweets (and can't cook anything else). And so, the day-to-day shenanigans begin. He makes constant (unintentional) messes that Chihiro has to clean up after. He follows his own dreams while supporting others. He puts his own health at risk to try and adopt a kitten, in which he's heavily allergic. He lets Chihiro keep a dog, an animal he's terrified of, at the expense of his own mental health and even free reign of the house.

Madoka even has limits. In which he is in an arranged marriage with a sixteen-year-old girl (himself being twenty-four). He has no interest in her, as well as acknowledging that her interests lie with someone else entirely. He not only encourages her to pursue her dream of being the perfect wife for the other man, but even is willing to make himself look bad to her father in order to make him a no-longer-suitable marriage candidate to her father. When the father says he misjudged him (as a suitable marriage candidate), Madoka retorts with "It's a good thing you realised your mistake, isn't it?" He supports her as she learns to do cooking and cleaning, even trying to get the person she admires to eat the food she makes, encouraging the relationship for when she's older.

In an episode where Madoka, Chihiro, and Chihiro's friends all watch a horror film, they watch a character that haunts people, saying she was crying for help, which pseudo-reflects the promise that Madoka made with Chiyo back in the day. Though he doesn't get particularly negatively affected by it, he reveals that he can't help but try to help others who cry out for it. He also reveals that promise to Chihiro, and says that, even though Chiyo never called him to help, he decided that adopting Chihiro was his way of making up for it.

During winter break, Madoka takes everyone to his family's small villa, where he has memories with Chiyo and watching the sunset. He tries to give Chihiro a break from all the cleaning and cooking he does, but the group quickly observes how restless Chihiro becomes without chores. Eventually, they let him cook and clean as much as he wants. In the wee hours of the morning, he watches the first sun of the new year with Chihiro, both of them wrapped in blankets. Madoka shares his story of Chiyo with him and giving the new year their best wishes.

Personality:

Madoka often comes acrost as upbeat and easygoing, even to the point of seeming lazy. Sometimes he doesn't take things seriously and is incredibly messy when left to his own devices. He doesn't really regard social norms and struggles with a sense of privacy, as he'll just climb into Chihiro's bed as it's the only one that's clean and available at the moment. This means his words and actions can come acrost as creepy or perverted, but Madoka himself is rather unaware of it unless pointed out to him. And even then, he protests gently by saying it's rude and that he wishes others would judge his character better. He can get especially excited by supporting other people's dreams, especially if he can see himself contributing to it (making uniforms for and spending money at the business).

Madoka is gently supportive and has a nature to help others, and in doing so can be mildly manipulative to try and benefit the other party. He made the caveat that Chihiro would work as a live in maid to earn his keep just so that Chihiro would be more comfortable accepting having room and board in Madoka's mansion. Or when he makes himself appear to be an unfit marriage candidate so that his former-betrothed could be free to pursue the person she truly desires.

Madoka is obsessed with cats, much to everyone's detriment as he is allergic to them. Madoka wants to love cats in spite of his allergies, even going so far as to sneak them into the house. He adores cat items just as much as cats themselves, and loves implementing cat features in the costumes he makes. In contrast, Madoka is extremely terrified of dogs, even ones that are children's toys. He can be successfully locked in a room with a toy dog to guard the door or just hearing barking in general.

He has two hobbies that he's highly invested in: costume designing and baking. He is enthusiastic about both. On the one hand, he will do absolutely large batches of baking with a variety of foods even as a meal by itself, despite the messes he makes doing it. On the other, he is passionate about his work as a costume designer, and will have periods of time where it is the only thing he can think about, especially as the deadline gets closer. He has been shown to leave his meals unfinished and be uninterested in just about anything else during these episodes of hard work. He still takes breaks, but his dream is a force to be reckoned with.

It has been noted that Madoka does struggle with social situations, having social anxiety and being withdrawn a chunk of the time. He doesn't really cope well with crowds and will zone out when dealing with them, even starting to feel nauseous. He can be coaxed into dealing with others, but it has to be for a cause he deems worthy, such as supporting Chihiro. Overall, he has been told he's a shut in before. Despite these obstacles, Madoka is able to form healthy relationships and get close to others. His major anxiety exists when dealing with larger groups of unfamiliar people.

Madoka can be seen as impractical. With a tendency to bake only sweets for meals, not being above teasing others for their mishaps, and behaving like a tantrum-throwing child when he's being pushed to do something he doesn't want, he can be a major handful. He has been known to shirk his duties and have others stand in his place for business meetings, wig included. But he also can have a childlike wistfulness, such as letting his garden become overgrown so that neighbourhood kids could pretend to be exploring ancient ruins as he once adored as a child. He also loves receiving gifts - not for their contents, but for the thought that someone had to buy him one altogether. Even when gifted an empty tissue box, he said he would cherish it forever. He keeps the wrapping from the presents, carefully retying their ribbons.

Overall, Madoka's heart tends to be in the right place. He has a certain vision of others and can be supportive of them while observing certain truths in their weaknesses, bending himself to find the best way to meet their needs, yet without sacrificing himself in the process. He's passionate with a child-like lense on life, adoring many things and being able to share them with those he cares about. He is a mess and accepts that about himself, with a certain amount of defense for his organised chaos in his sewing room. He has a dream to share with the world, and adores being able to take care of his nephew in addition to that dream.

Abilities:

Fashion Design: Madoka is a skilled fashion designer and likes to work on costumes. He can design about anything that can be dreamed up, and loves making cute things with ruffles the best. Can work in a variety of mediums, including shoes. He is also skilled at handicrafts.

Baking: Exceptionally good at baking sweets, however it is the only thing he can cook at all.

Mild manipulation: Being a type that likes to help others, he can twist the story so that things work out for them, such as hiring his nephew as his personal maid to "earn his keep" (and keep Chihiro from feeling awkward about being taken care of), and even going out of his way to make himself look like an unworthy marriage candidate in order to break out of his arranged marriage so his former-betrothed can pursue the one she loves.

Being a disaster: Can go months, or even years, without cleaning up after himself, and has a nose that can ignore it. Also great at shirking any duties that he doesn't want to do. Can also create massive messes in a single sitting.

Character Summary:
Madoka grew up with his sister and childhood friend. One day, Madoka left to study abroad, and made a promise with his sister, "If I ever need help, I'll call for you". However, his sister came to cut off herself from the entire family. It wasn't until she died in an accident over a decade later that Madoka comes to see his nephew, Chihiro, and take him in. However, Chihiro didn't like the idea of just freeloading. So Madoka made a deal with him: clean the house and do the cooking, and you'll have free room and board with meals.

Throughout this slice-of-life story, you find out bits and pieces of what Madoka's life was when he grew up with his sister, and how he's coping with her death now. Madoka is a bit of an absent-minded professor. Talented in sewing and baking and not much else. He'll easily wander off, shirk his duties (unless it's a sewing deadline), and not even clean up after himself, leaving disasters in his wake. However, Madoka has a kind heart and finds it hard to refuse to help someone in need.

He has an obsession with cats and, despite his allergies, will bring strays home often. He supports others, even if it means sacrificing his own image in the process to help them out. However, he does have social anxiety and struggles the most with large groups of unfamiliar people, though still easily forms meaningful relationships. He loves any symbol that shows that he was thought of and cherishes the wrapping paper of the gifts forever. Though he may be impractical a lot of the time, his heart is in the right place.
